A key aspect in the vision of the founders of Rurban was the belief that the farm had to be self sustaining in every way. Emphasis was laid on water management and as early as 2018 a project to harvest rainwater was put in place.

The farm now has a capacity of holding of 100 lac litres of water with retention seen even up until early summer.
